The Linden Method is currently the most popular treatment for panic attacks and anxiety. It's system designed by Charles Linden, a man who once had panic attacks, to cure you permanently.

Breathing panic attacks are common for those that normally struggle with anxiety. They come at the worst times and can be very scary because they affect the way you breathe. If you're not able to control them, you likely feel like you're about to suffocate or pass out. It's a horrible part of the disorder.
Normally, controlling your breathing is something that I really recommend you do. It's something that can help any panic or anxiety attack and it's something you can do at any time. You don't need expensive medications or prescriptions to pull it off and it works no matter how often you do it. However, if breathing is the problem, what can you really do to help it?
Since you feel short on air and that causes even more anxiety than the attack itself, you need to really get good at focusing on your happy place. It doesn't matter what it is, it just needs to be some place where you could feel completely relaxed and without worry. It's different for everyone. My personal happy place is a quiet tropical beach with a tree and a patch of grass on it that I sit under. I like to close my eyes and take a deep breath and listen to the waves gently pressing against the sand.
It's a really calming and peaceful place. The more you imagine it, the more real it will become, and the easier it will be for you to go there. I know that it's hard when you feel like you're gasping for air but the whole point of it is to make you forget the anxiety you're experiencing (because thinking about the anxiety only makes it worse). It takes practice, so to get to the point where you can go to your happy place at any time I suggest you think about it when you're not having a breathing panic attack. That way, you really become familiar with it.
Once your mind is distracted, your breathing should slow down and you should be able to regain control of it.
